It is said that Songs are a FUN way to learn English! Can you explain that?
Of course my dear and appreciated teacher!! As you said before songs are a very good way to teach, essentially to teach kids. It means that it's a tool to develop in a integrative way the linguistic skills (well known as: writing, listening, reading and speaking). So that's the reason why teachers have to apply this kind of strategy in order to help to his o her students to improve his or her English.
Here i'm recommending a web site very useful: http://www.dreamenglish.com/
Hi, everyone. I've just entered the blog for the very first time. Cheers to that!
That's right! Songs are excellent resources in a general sense. By 'a general sense' I mean it's not only perfect for children but also for teenagers and adults. The thing is, music connects to everyone's soul and activates feelings. Hence, whenever we (teachers) succeed in relating educational lyrics to different beats (which can catch our students' attention), we are actually helping them (students) to subconsciously learn the target contents.
Thanks a lot for the recommended link, YOS.
I don't know if you all already know the following website, but I want to share it with you, anyway: http://www.learninggamesforkids.com/educational_videos/educational_videos_days_of_the_week.html
The links are really cool Francisco!!! and as you know very well when we are teaching we have to take into consideration songs as a very useful resources to help our student in order to catch the content developed and also to know if they have got all the information!!!
Because children allow them express themselves though of songs. They don't afraid to say phrase in English, though those songs they can develop their imagination also they can have fun and is the most dynamic way to learn this language.
Songs generates a motivation for children. it makes they begin to assimilate the language unconsciously. I mean, they participate in the activity of a fun and entertaining way without realize what they are learning with that strategy.!!!
Welcome Francisquito and Claretsita!!! =) You all are totally right!!! Songs are excellent resources for teaching! Everybody loves music! I do! =) Through music we can express our feelings and emotions! By using songs in an EFL classroom, we take into account the TPR approach! Don't you think?
Thanks a lot, Melysita! XD I'm just delighted by the whole course!
Yes, songs can stand for the TPR approach, but just when the given lyrics have concrete contents and we mime while singing. That is why it is extremely important not only to choose appropriate songs but also to join our little students in the process of singing.
Teaching through songs is fun, the children like to sing, I teach to kids, I taught them a song and fifteen days after they sang the whole song with the movements, if one of them was wrong with the movement and the word, the other kids corrected because they associated the word with the body. the song was about the body.
I found an excellent page where we can download free MP3 for kids! It is http://freekidsmusic.com/traditional/. It's cool 'cause you can read the lyrics as well! =) Have you searched for more interesting and useful links???
Thanks, Yos! I invite the rest of students to share links with us and to comment about the topic! Remember you'll have opportunity to participate until next Wednesday!
Well I agree with you my friends, songs are an excellent resourse to teach children. Many children love expressing themselves through singing. Through songs they can learn and enjoy what are they learning.
Kids before beginning speak, pay attention to commands made by theirs parents or relatives, because they try to connect the imperative command with physical response, this occur in theirs mother tongue. In the same way, teachers take into account this ability to carry out at classroom to adquisition of second language. So through Total Physical Response approach, teacher will combine information and skills for example, manipulating things, moving with grace and coordination, using gestures, body language, in this case listening a song. This is a great advantage in which they will learn well when there is a songs or movement to symbolize the content.
I agree with you claretsita there are songs in which we can use TPR. We can combine songs with movements or gestures to motivate the participation of our kids because they tend to be bored when they are in the same place all the time. For example we can add movements like jumping, runnig, touching parts of the bodie, and so on. It is depends of what song we are singing. Remember that if we are teaching children through songs, these songs have to be shorts and easy to understand. So we must to take into account the age of our children in order to select the appropriate songs for each one of them.
Wow! All of them are very interesting links. Here I'll share another one:

Like in the one given by Yusmelita, here you can read the lyrics while singing. In this case, songs cannot be downloaded so easily, unless you have a downloader program integrated to your Windows (Internet download Manager, for instance). That's the only way I've been able to do it from that page.
The songs capture children's attention and interest. It heps to mantain them awake there are way of learning with words, letters of the songs which are useful in the practice of this language.
The songs are a fun way to learn any language also they are accompanied by graceful body movements, this helps to anchor the learning of new vocabulary.
I agree with all of my classmates, and I also think that not only children learn english through songs in combination with TPR, adults often tend to learn faster this way and also relax. I am such a person .... I like songs with movements
