  2. It is true that children learn so fast!I agree with you! However, are you really sure it is good to teach grammar to them?

  3. Well teacher I Think that we can teach some grammatical aspects to the children not only vocabulary, but these grammatical aspects should be easy for them.If we use the appropriate strategies we can do it. On the other hand it is important to say that when we are teaching children we must pay attention to their ages. In my opinion we can teach grammatical aspects to children with 10 years old and more

  4. In my opinion depends on the child's age or grade, is not necessary to teach English grammar. They learn through songs and games, in other words, the strategies used should be interesting for them.

  5. Grammar for kids can be seen as a challenge, but is not impossible. If we want to teach some grammatical aspects of English to children, we must be careful, because in English there are so many rules that can be difficult to learn for them. For that reason as I said before, when we teach grammatical aspects to children, these aspects should be easy for them. If there is one thing that kids understand, it's playing games.By putting the rules of grammar in terms they can understand and having fun at the same time, the process of teaching becomes interesting for them. :)

  7. Remember that even when we teach adults it's not so recommendable to teach grammar in a direct way! That's why we use the Communicative Approach, to teach the language through language functions. So, as Julia said, we should teach those aspects but indirectly, using different activities such games and songs. Now, changing the topic, in your opinion, how many new words should we teach kids per class? (specifying their ages, of course)Investigate that and let us know through this blog! :-)

  9. Well teacher when I wrote my comment I meant that we can teach some grammatical aspects of english to children by using the appropriate strategies and taking into account the age of the children. We can use games or songs to teach these grammatical aspects. This is an indirect way to teach grammar. :)

  10. In my opinion when children are very young (at the maternal age for example) we can teach a word per class,it has to be related to the environment where the word is unfolding as mom, dad and always accompanied by songs of easy understanding, when they are a little bigger than 3 years and up can always be adding two or three words but always ensuring they are understood and assimilated to teach new words.

  11. In this opportunity I agree with julia, I think that we can teach one word per class when children are under three years old, this word can be similar to the words that they are learning in their mother tongue, as julia said words like:mom,or dad are excellent and very easy for them. But it is important to use a resourse in order to encourage the learning, may be a song related with that word. Otherwise, when children are a little bigger than 3 years old, we can teach them 3 or 4 words per class, by using a resource like a song or game related with these words.:)

  12. Nice responses! You have menctioned something important. We have to teach words similar to the ones they are learning in the mother tongue! In that way, we will be using the Topic based approach discussed in class, and from those topics we can arrange the Tasks they are gonna do (task based approach. Now, why is it also important to consider the Total Physical Response approach when teaching children?

  13. Hi everybody, I am agree in some way with all my partners. Kids are like sponge as Edirub said at the beginning and also depends on the age of the children for choose the correct strategy. I think that first of all they need to know vocabulary and the best way to acquire it, is through songs, games, dynamics, short stories with much cartoons, after that we can go adding step by step grammar using the vocabulary that they already have, and yes it is a challenge, like Diana said but a very enjoyable challenge when goals are achieved.

  14. Okey teacher, you ask why TPR (Total Physical Response) is important?
Because TPR are commands that require physical movement, en children are most time of the day in action. It is very important to remember that to teach a native language to a child mother used to use body language with words so that the child produces sounds that allow he/she to repeat the words, making it a meaningful learning that later step by step the child will be practice in his/her daily activities.

  15. It's really interesting to see how children acquire a foreign language much more easily than adults, this may be due to the big interest to learn new things, that concern to keep their mind and body in continuous action. Moreover, I'd like to puntualized that activities in class should certainly be tailored to the individual and collective capacities of the students, because children tend to learn more easily experimenting with the language, which is absolutely necessary to create situations that contextualize the words, the patterns of language. But taking into account that they are not adults, therefore teachers should make use of teaching strategies that contribute to the appropriation of language. It is important to mention the order in which language is learned, according to the points made by Paul Seligson in his publication entitled An introduction to teaching English to children states that "listen, speak, and write is the order for the acquisition of a language" That's why we have to exagerate our tongue at the moment of speak, and also the body language in order to make the kids know appropiately what we want to teach. Each movement of our body is important if we use an expression in a wrong way it may discourage the student and therefore he/she does not wish to continue the learning process. That is why movements, signs, or body language that we as educators are employed must be the result of an analysis thoughtfully to not affect the reciprocity of teaching.

  16. We can use TPR when we teach children because is the way in which we can see if our students have learned. The students listen and respond language commands of their teacher. If they can perform the teacher’s instructions it means that they know the meaning of the words. This approach combine the ability to listen and act at the same time. When the students receive a command accompanied by a movement is easier to memorize and recognize any word.

  17. It's really hard to replicate a comment when no one participates, that is why I refrained to comment anything but, at last the time came. Diana friend, certainly children tend to develop their cognitive potential while educators employ more teaching techniques and body movements indeed, signs, dances, among others, are of great help in this work. I completely agree with your point of view. TPR is a good resourse which if it is well developed it could help students adquire new vocabulary and even without knowing establish a way to teach grammar, telling them when a word or a sentence is right or wrong used, obviously depending on the ages of our children.

  19. I think the application of this approach is important because as teachers we must keep our students active, the reason is that children tend to get bored very quickly. It is recommended to include activities using gestures or body movements to facilitate their learning.:)

  20. Most children are restless, make activities where they are involved with physical activities such as movements (provided they are moderate, depending on age) for them is fun making it easier to target proposed by the teacher

  21. That's why many teacher prefer to teach children because it's very funny to see them dancing, singing and so on, and also see that the innocence of children does not allow them to realize that while they are doing this funny activities they're learning. Don't you think to teach kids is very intersting????? But at the same time is quite stressful, because despite being great fun, children require variety in the strategy as Diana said they get bored easily.
